The relation between Thriprayar temple and the Kanady Madom situated three Kilo meters away is wellknown from ancient times. Ravana invited Chathan to Lanka but the accompanied him only on eertain conditions. Chathan tols Ravana to be perfection activities. Accordingly Chathan was neutral in the renowed Rama ravana Yudha. After the wwar chathan accompanied rama to India. It is thus that chathan happened to be related to Sri. Ramaswamy Triparayar Temple. For the Arrattupuzha Pooram Festival when Sri Rama is taken out in a procession on a capprisoned elephant it is the tradition for Chathan also to accompany him, on the way, Sri.Ramaswamy is given a rousing reception at the Kanady Madom. As Chthan would accompany Sri rama for a complete day the doors of local Chathan Mutt will not be opened.
Historical sources reveal that Tippusulthan. The Mysore Prince invaded Triprayar temple. When Tippu and his soldiers entered Sri Rama Swamy Temple the temple was seen to be full of sprits dressed ready to meet the challenge in particular style arranged by Chathan and afraid of them tippu again went to the Temple with unarmed men.
Seeing many dynamites and shotguns kept in readiness, Tippu ordered all of them to be thrown into the nearby river. If the deity is powerful the guns will fire even under water said Tippu. Strangely all the guns exploded under water and with great reverence to the diety Tippu left Triprayar for good.
Yet another epic. There is a story current about the divine procession of Triprayar Sri. Ramaswamy. The presiding diety of Triprayar temple located 3 Kilometers away to the east. There was a devotee of Triprayar Sri Ramaswamy who was also a pious devotee of Triprayar Sri Ramaswamy who was also a pious devotee and follower of Kanady Chathan. He invited the royal prince Sakthan Thampuran to attend the marriage celebration of one of his family members. Thampuran was surprised at the audacity of the man who had dared to invite him to attend the marrige celebraion. He sent word to the guardian of the marrying girl to be present before him. Accordingly this pious mean appeared before Sakthan Thampuran.Thampuran felt that the man had insulted him and therefore he chopped his head. Following this high heanded and sinful action many troubles began to fall on the head of Thampuran. Therefore and Ashmangalaya prasana was arranged. According to this astrological investigation and conclusions it was found out that the atrocity committed on the pious man was the source of all these troubles and the divine procession of Thriprayar Sri Ramaswamy should take route via Kanady Madom as in the case of a Namboodhiri’s Mana and the Chazhur palace as an act of propitiation. Over and above this a stipulated amount was required to be paid to Kanady Madom annually as a redressive measure. According to Blahayil Nair the then trustee of the temple, it is due to the influence of Chathan that the temple, it is due to the influence of Chathan the the guns exploded under water and this was revealed by astrologers when asn astrological court went into the subject. Even today the chief of the Kanady Madom presents gifts to mahouts and other during the Triprayar Appan procession for the participation for the participation in Triprayar Pooram. Konnachary brought Chathan and installed him here was the one who initiated the daily routine of poojas at the Madam. He was the oracle of the Chathan. The oracle in Kanady Madom is different from those of other temple’s. The oracle Komaram of Kanady Madom should be a member of the same family. Konnacharya, the first oracle was the representative of Chathan and devotees and worshippers sought remedy for their grievances through him. The same practice is followed even today. Those who reside away and cannot go to Kanady Madom, write letters to the oracle which is read aloud in open in the presence of Chathan. Oracles to Chathan should be as far as possible for among the same family.
